Thread Type Category Full Name Thread Angle Taper Key Characteristics & Common Applications
M Metric Metric General Purpose 60° None (Parallel) Global standard. Defined by pitch (mm). Used for general mechanical fastening and assembly.
UNF Unified Unified Fine 60° None (Parallel) Fine pitch for high strength and better adjustment. Common in aerospace and automotive industries.
UNEF Unified Unified Extra Fine 60° None (Parallel) Extra fine pitch used for thin-walled tubes and high-precision adjustment instruments.
UNS Unified Unified Special 60° None (Parallel) Customized threads with non-standard combinations of diameter and pitch for specific designs.
BSPP (G) British British Standard Pipe Parallel 55° None (Parallel) Also known as G thread. Requires a washer, gasket, or O-ring to achieve a leak-proof seal.
BSPT (R/Rc) British British Standard Pipe Taper 55° 1:16 Also known as Whitworth Taper. Achieves a seal via the fit of the threads themselves + sealant.
NPT American National Pipe Taper 60° 1:16 Standard American pipe thread. Relies on thread interference and the use of PTFE tape or sealant.
NPTF American National Pipe Taper Fuel 60° 1:16 Known as Dryseal. Designed to provide a leak-proof seal without the need for additional sealants.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Custom Threading & Fitting Machining FAQ

Can you machine custom threads based on our technical drawings?

Yes. As a precision CNC machining factory, we can produce custom pipe fittings and adapters according to your 2D/3D CAD drawings (PDF, DWG, STEP, IGES) or physical samples, supporting both standard and non-standard custom thread specifications.

How do you ensure thread quality and leak-proof sealing?

We perform 100% thread Go/No-Go plug and ring gauge testing on every production batch. Additionally, our multi-axis CNC machines maintain strict pitch diameter tolerances to guarantee seamless assembly and pressure-tight sealing.

What is the main difference between NPT and BSPP threads?

NPT is an American tapered thread with a 60° thread angle that creates a seal through thread interference. BSPP is a British parallel thread with a 55° angle that requires an O-ring, washer, or gasket to achieve a leak-proof seal.

What materials can you use for threaded pipe fittings?

Our primary manufacturing materials include stainless steel (SS201,ss303,ss304, ss316, ss316L) and carbon steel(20#,35#,45#,40CR,42CRMO,12L14 etc.). We also offer custom CNC machining for brass, copper, and aluminum alloy components upon request.

What is your Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) for custom threaded fittings?

Our standard MOQ starts at 500 pieces per item, subject to final evaluation based on part dimensions, material specifications, and drawing complexity.
